3 Step Rewind Programme

This is a 3 step process to reduce the symptoms of trauma.

One of our most primitive survival techniques is the fight, flight or freeze response. When these emotions are triggered from a traumatic event, these exhausting feelings of helplessness and fear can re-surface and trigger the emotional trauma once again.

Afterwards, anytime you replay the event in your head it can activate these negative emotions and even though your brain will try to reassure you that everything is ok and there is no longer any real danger. It cannot override the stress signals that we are experiencing, so we relive these feelings over and over again.

How the programme works

Step 1: You will start by sharing your experience with me. We will then discuss how you would like to think and feel when you recall this experience, and I will then guide you into a gentle relaxation. Remember, even if you do not share your story with me, you can still feel the benefits of the rewind programme.

Step 2: This is the rewind session, and is normally carried out one week after Step 1. I will ask how you have been and after a brief discussion, will then guide you into a relaxation where you can witness your experience from a safe place, as though it is being played through a tv screen.

Step 3: In the final step we will assess how your week has been and how successful you feel the technique was for you. Hopefully you can now view the experience without a feeling of dread or hopelessness, and I will guide you into another relaxation. This will re-enforce all of the positivity that is now connected with this experience. If however, you are still experiencing some negative emotional response, we can go through Step 2 (the rewind technique) once again.
